My “Me” List

I am officially 37 weeks pregnant! Where has the time gone?! While I still have about 3 (maybe 5) weeks left, I can’t help but think about how our baby boy will change everyday life. At this point I have a lot of unanswered questions about motherhood, which is both exciting and nerve racking. I know the change will ultimately be good (but tough) so I wanted to take these last weeks of pregnancy to not only focus on the remaining to-do items for baby, but to focus on myself and time with my husband as well since those moments may be limited in the near future!

Below is a “me” list that I’ve put together for my final weeks of being pregnant, which I’m hoping will help relax me and provide some much needed pampering! I think it’s important to do little things to help us feel better, and a “me” list would be great for anyone needing a little quality time with themselves. Life can be all-consuming so it’s necessary to take time every once in a while to bring yourself back to neutral and think about what makes you happy! As Oprah says, “It’s okay to put yourself first.”

My “Me” List: 

Date Night(s) – I know, the first thing on my list isn’t really just for me but for both my husband and I. It’s still an important one on my list though because in a few weeks we’ll no longer have as much alone time and the times that we do won’t quite be the same. So it’s my mission to fit in some really nice dinners, movie dates, ice cream dates, etc. just to spend time as just the two of us.

Mani/Pedi – I know this seems lame, but I don’t want to go to the hospital without having a perfect pedicure. Is that weird? I’m sure it means I’m high maintenance! Nonetheless, I definitely plan on fitting in a mani/pedi session before my due date. I normally do these myself but plan on going to a salon this time to have a bit of a pampering session. Plus bending in half to paint my toes is getting to be quite impossible!

Wax – I don’t want to be focusing on hairy legs in the hospital so a good wax is essential! Plus it’ll help keep things tidy for a while since I’m sure my days will be filled with other more important matters.

Body scrub/Facial – I mean, I really should just call a spa and ask them to do everything on me. Haha Along with good nails and hair-free legs, I’d like to get a good body scrub and facial to really completely pamper myself. My focus will be 100% on making sure my boy gets the right nutrition, sleep, love, everything from the moment he’s born so I’m not sure when the next time will be to really indulge in some good spa treatments.

Post Baby Clothes – Being pregnant is fun… for a while! lol After some time you really start to miss wearing cute clothes again, and I plan on picking a few out so I have something to look forward to. Even some nice underwear so when I’m feeling up to it, I can have something fun to wear to make the day a little better.

Belly Band – I’m pretty nervous about what my body will look like after labor. Will it go back to normal? Will my stomach be destroyed? No idea! So I’m planning on getting a belly band because I heard it can help put things back in place. I’ve heard positive things so hoping this works for me!

Letter to Myself – Lastly, I want to write a letter to myself that I can refer to when I’m doubting myself or when times are tough. I want to remind myself to be grateful for all that life has given me, that I’m a strong woman and that I’ve been given such an incredible gift with my son. I know my emotions may be all over the place during postpartum so this letter will (hopefully) help with that!

Anyways, take from this list what you will and maybe make yourself a “me” list too! I think we all default to helping others first, but every once in a while, we need some love too.

    Dear Kelly, I truly love your blog and enjoy reading it so much. You will be a great Mom and John a great Dad. You are a beautiful Person and you take good care of yourself. Yes, we do need to pamper ourselves once in awhile, so do take the time. Childbirth always changes our bodies a little but in time it all goes back to normal. So don’t worry too much , you will be fine. About labor and delivery, try not to focus on everyone else’s experiences. It is not so bad and when you see your new Son for the first time all is forgotten immediately. You will do great. Remember, I will be there for you anytime. Love, Grandma

      Thank you grandma! I really appreciate everything and will definitely try not to focus too much on labor. The end result is what’s important so I’m just going to keep my mind on that! I can’t wait for him to meet you and grandpa, and join in on all the wonderful family dinners!
