Three Quick Ways to Brighten Skin

Happy first day of fall! I know it’s been a while since I sat down and did a blog post, but it’s been a hectic few weeks over here. Our little boy celebrated his first birthday (where did this year go???), and my husband and I launched our very own business together, which I’ll talk about more soon! In the meantime I wanted to share some quick ways that I brighten my skin when I only have a few minutes to spare because who doesn’t want a little brightening to kick off fall?

Brightening skincare has been on my mind a lot lately because it doesn’t matter how much sleep I get, I always look tired. Is that just a mom thing? What I would do to sleep in just one day… while I wish I could rewind the clock just a bit, it’s nice to know that I have a few things around to help make me look more alive. And by alive, I seriously mean alive. Babies kick your butt.

To start off I throw on a mask while I’m either brushing my teeth or getting dressed. While you could do a brightening mask, I prefer a clay mask because it tightens skin, making it look more youthful, and brings some flush to your cheeks. Bonus: it’s super relaxing!

I prefer the Aztec Indian Clay Mask because it’s affordable and always gives results. It’s available at Whole Foods, and it comes in powder form so it lasts forever. All you need to do is mix it with water or water/apple cider vinegar.

After applying my regular toner and moisturizer, I’ll throw on some makeup. When you want to look awake, focus on the eyes. The fastest way to get them brighter (after curling lashes) is to apply highlighter to the inner corners. I use this trick constantly… like every day.

While I like using the mirror from this old Dior eyeshadow palette, I prefer to only purchase and recommend brands that are cruelty free. The actual highlighter I prefer comes from RMS, which I also use for lipstick and concealer. You can get samples of RMS’s luminizer here. Just click on Order a Sample!

Lastly I apply a bright brush color to my cheeks. A bright lipstick will also do the trick, but lately that’s been a bit impractical for my lifestyle these days since whenever I do apply it, it ends up getting on my little boy’s head! Blush makes you look youthful and applying it on the top of your cheeks makes eyes pop. I used Bare Minerals Golden Gate since it’s a great fall shade.

Other than a hot cup of tea, that’s what I do to get my skin to look awake in three really easy, fast steps! This whole routine took about 30 minutes, and if you have more time you could even apply a cold compress to your eyes. Cucumbers work well since they won’t dry your skin out. If you have even more time? Well, you could always go back to sleep! Just don’t tell me about it because I may want to hate you for it.
